Faire un bloc pour grimoire

How to create your block

Voici un petit tuto pour réaliser le bloc de feuilles de votre futur grimoire. C’est la méthode dite du dos carré collé !
C’est la méthode la plus simple et la plus rapide que je connaisse mais si vous en connaissez d’autre n’hésitez pas à m’en faire part 😉

Le matériel :

• des feuilles A3, A4 ou A5 en fonction du format choisi pour votre grimoire*
• de la colle
• mousseline ou tarlatane (pour renforcer le dos de votre bloc)
• deux page de garde (mais pas obligatoire)

*comme vous devrez plier les feuilles pour faire votre bloc, vous devez choisir les feuilles d’une taille supérieure à celle de votre grimoire :
si votre grimoire au format A4 vous devrez prendre des feuilles au format A3
si votre grimoire est en A5, les feuilles seront en A4
si votre grimoire est en A6, les feuilles seront en A5

La réalisation :

1 – Pliez les pages

Comme le titre l’indique, il suffit de pliez les pages en deux. Vous pouvez pliez vos pages par paquet de 5 ça va plus vite.

Ajouter vos pages de garde à l’avant  et à l’arrière votre bloc (c’est la première page que vous verrez en ouvrant votre grimoire, vous pouvez mettre une page de garde ou non, faites selon votre goût 🙂 )

Pour cet exemple j’ai utilisé une page de garde (papier lokta épais)

2 – Encollez

Prenez votre bloc et taper le dos du bloc sur la table pour que toutes les feuilles soient bien alignées

Une fois que vous jugez le résultat satisfaisant, encollez votre bloc en prenant soin de bien appuyer avec le pinceau pour que la colle rentre un peu (attention à ne pas mettre trop de colle)

Laissez un peu sécher avant de mettre votre bloc entre deux cartons (vous pouvez utiliser les carton que vous utiliserez pour votre couverture)

Posez un poids dessus pour éviter que votre bloc ne gondole (ça arrive quand on met trop de colle)

Laissez sécher une dizaine de minute environ avant de remettre une fine couche de colle

Laissez à nouveau sécher (je laisse en général sécher toute une nuit pour être sure mais 4 heures devraient suffire)

3 – Rogner

Cette étape n’est pas obligatoire, vous pouvez très bien laisser votre bloc au naturel avec les feuilles qui dépassent.
Personnellement, je préfère quand c’est lisse et pour cela il y a plusieurs méthode :
– soit vous utiliser un massicot qui peut couper des blocs épais, voir la photo plus bas (si vous n’en avez pas, certains imprimeurs peuvent le faire pour vous moyennant finance)
– soit vous pouvez poncer votre bloc avec un papier à poncer très fin (si vous poncez dans l’épaisseur de votre bloc, les tranches seront bien lisses, si vous poncez dans la longueur, cela donnera un petit côté vieux grimoire usé assez sympa)

4 – Poser la mousseline

Coupez un rectangle de mousseline ou tarlatane avec un longueur inférieure à votre bloc et une largeur plus grande que l’épaisseur de votre bloc

Par exemple :  mon bloc fait 20cm de longueur et 2cm d’épaisseur ma tarlatane fait 19cm de longueur et 3cm de largeur

Collez votre tarlatane sur le dos de votre bloc de manière à ce que la tarlatane soit collée de part et d’autre de votre bloc

Laissez sécher et voilà votre bloc est fini !

Il ne vous reste plus qu’à créer la couverture de votre grimoire !

Des angles en cuir ou tissu

Vous souhaitez mettre des angles en tissu ou en cuir sur votre grimoire, voilà comment faire !

Découpez un triangle rectangle de la taille voulu (j’ai pris un triangle de 5cm pour mon exemple) dans une feuille de papier, il vous servira de patron.

Mettez le sur un bout de tissu ou de cuir et découper un rectangle de tissu ou de cuir comme sur la photo.

Posez votre triangle sur la couverture de votre grimoire et poser un règle au bord du triangle, elle vous servira de repère.

Retirez le triangle en papier et collez votre morceau de tissu ou cuir le long de la règle.

Retournez votre couverture, enlevez un bout de la couverture au cutter afin que le pli de l’angle ne devienne pas trop épais.

Pliez les rebords de l’angle.

Et voilà, il vous en reste trois autre à faire.

Hello and thank you for visiting my blog.

This blog was made for people who want an book of magic spells for them, to offer or who wish to make one.

The grimoire (or book of magic spells) were, originally, book where people used to write recipes of potions, spells and the other knowledge of the Occult, but nowadays, they can have other utilities. It is up to each to make what he wishes.

The grimoire, you’ll find on this blog, can serve as well as esoteric book, book of the shadows, book of magic but also as cookbook, album-photo, wedding book, visitors’ book, journey diary, personal diary …

They exist in several sizes : Big, Medium-sized, Small and Other. But you can try to make it bigger or smaller.

You’ll find here my creations which you can buy on my shop  » Les grimoires d’ Isobel  » but I also sell all the material to create a book of magic spells.

You can also make yours, I made a tutoriel « How to make a grimoire », to help create your own.

And I hope, you’ll come here to share your creations, your setbacks and your discoveries (you can recreate my grimoire to create yours, since you don’t make it in a commercial purpose)

How to Make a Grimoire

There are numerous manners to bind a book and thus to create a book of magic spells.
I am going to share with you how i make my grimoire if you have problems by following my tutorial, do not hesitate to tell me.

1 – The Material : (you can find it on my website Les Grimoires d’Isobel)

Two cardboards of cover and a cardboard for the spine
A block of paper already glued (you can glue it by yourself but the width of the spine’s cardboard must be equal to the width of your paperblock)
Two internal sheetsand its two backing band
Some leather or some fabric(tissue) for covers and spine
Some glue for binding (or some glue in spray if you stick some fabric(tissue))
Decorations (hinges, pendants, bookmark)

2 – Tools:

A brush (rather synthetic)
A ruler
A lead pencil and a gum(eraser)
A cutter
A hammer
Table mats in cork to point,stick your decorations
A cutting pliers to cut nails
Two weights (conjoint boxes, dictionaries)
A sponge or a wet fabric (to remove the glue on the leather and/or the hands)

3 – Creation of the book of magic spells:

I chose a grimoire covered with cloth in large format (see photo) but I shall mention if there are changes to make according to the size.

1- Stick the fabric(tissue) (or the leather):

Glue the cardboard and position the fabric(tissue) (or the leather) as on the photo

 

Stick the center and level the fabric(tissue) (or the leather) towards the outside then cut angles

Glue the fabric(tissue) (or the leather) and pull down edges left and right then pull down the last side

Take the fabric(tissue) (or the leather) for the spine and make sure it has the good size:

	A4	A5	A6
Size of the spine in leather or fabric	Width of the cardboard spine + 7,5cm	Width of the cardboard spine  + 6,5cm	Width of the cardboard spine  + 5,5cm

Stick the cardboard of the spine in the middle of the fabric(tissue) (or leather)

	A4	A5	A6
Size of §	3cm	2,5cm	2cm

 

Glue the fabric(tissue) (or the leather) of spine and stick on the cover. Leave 7mm between the spine and the cover. Glue and pull down the top and the bottom of the spine on the cover.

2- Decorate the cover(blanket):

It’s time for you to create the cover of your future book of magic spells.

3- Place the bookmark and stick the block:

Put your ribbon in the middle of your block of paper and glue the upper end behind the block (on approximately 5 cms)
Glue the back of the block but avoid putting it too much on edges

Place the block on the back of your cover, in the center and prop up the block between two weights upright
You make sure that it does not move and let dry it half a day

4- Stick the backing bands and the internal pages:

Under one of the covers, put a support (ex: book) to be able to work more easily and stick the backing bands (half on the block and the other one on the cover)

While you let it dry, take one of the internal sheets, you’ll have to pull down the edges of every sheet (the size correspond to the width and the length of your paper block)

Fold following the lines, glue the sheet and put it in the center of the cover

Let dry your grimoire approximately 2 hours before making the other side otherwise you will have ungraceful folds

You finally ended when your grimoire is dry! You can then take advantage of your hard labour and let your close relations admire your creations!
